The General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), Morgan Ayawine, has praised the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for its digitization drive, describing it as a “good initiative” that has greatly eased the pension claim process for retirees.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Employers’ Breakfast Meeting in Accra, Mr. Ayawine noted that in the past, pensioners faced significant challenges in accessing their benefits, often having to travel long distances to Accra to process their claims.
However, SSNIT’s digitization efforts have made the process much more streamlined and efficient.
“The digitization drive has made it easier for pensioners to access their benefits without having to go through the hassle of traveling to Accra,” Mr. Ayawine said.
“This is a commendable effort by SSNIT, and we urge them to continue investing in digital infrastructure to further improve the pension claim process.”
ICU General Secretary also emphasized the importance of SSNIT’s investment activities, stating that the more the Trust invests, the more it ensures that Ghanaian workers’ contributions are being put to good use.
He believes that, this will ultimately benefit workers in the long run, providing them with a secure financial foundation for their retirement.
“We encourage SSNIT to intensify its investment efforts, as this will not only benefit workers but also contribute to the country’s economic growth and development,” Mr. Ayawine added.
“By investing in various sectors, SSNIT can create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and ensure that workers’ contributions are being utilized effectively.”
