Become an Employer

Who can be an Employer?

Any business, company, organisation, or entity in Ghana that employs one or more workers is required to register with SSNIT, register their employees, and make monthly pension contributions on behalf of those workers. This includes private companies, small businesses with staff, public institutions, NGOs, and other formal employers.

Employer's Obligation

An employer who engages employees is required to:

  • Ensure all their workers are registered under the Scheme immediately upon hiring.
  • Deduct 5.5% from the worker’s monthly salary and add 13% of their basic salary to total an 18.5% contribution.
  • Remit 13.5% of the total contribution to SSNIT within 14 days of the following month. 5% to Tier 2.
  • Attach a “Contribution Report” to every payment, listing each worker’s name, social security number, and specific contribution amount.
  • Pay regular contributions to SSNIT on behalf of their workers.
  • Submit Contribution Reports by the end of every month, even if you have not yet remitted the actual funds to the Trust.

Whether you operate in the public or private sector, you have a responsibility to ensure both Ghanaian and expatriate employees are registered under the SSNIT Scheme and also pay contributions on their behalf monthly.
