The SSNIT and NIA numbers merger is simply a process to link SSNIT numbers of Members to their NIA numbers. The NIA number is the Personal ID Number on the Ghana Card. What this means is that your NIA number will become your SSNIT number after the merger.

To merger your SSNIT and NIA numbers, you must have enrolled with SSNIT biometrically.

You need your:

  1. SSNIT number
  2. NIA number (Personal ID Number on the Ghana Card)

However, if the mobile phone number and email address you use presently is different from what you have in the SSNIT database, you must provide your email address and mobile phone number.

Using the USSD (short code)

  1. Dial *711*9# on your mobile phone
  2. Select option 1
  3. Enter your SSNIT Number
  4. Enter your email address (if the phone number you are using is different from your phone number registered in our database)
  5. Enter the Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card
  6. Select option 1 to complete the merging of your SSNIT and the NIA numbers (Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card)

You will receive a notification after the merger.

1. Log onto the SSNIT website https://www.ssnit.org.gh and click the ‘My Statement’

2. Log in by filling the required fields and click Sign In.(Click on Get Access if you don’t have an account or click on Forgot Password if you have forgotten your password then sign in)

3. At the My Statement page, click on Merge my NIA Number.

4. Agree to the terms and conditions and click Submit and Continue.

5. Enter your NIA Number (Personal ID Number on the Ghana Card) and click Submit. You will receive a notification after the merger.

Such Members must visit the nearest SSNIT Branch to be assisted to merge their SSNIT and NIA numbers. They need to bring along their:

  1. Ghana Card or NIA Number
  2. SSNIT Card or SSNIT number
  3. Valid email address
  4. Mobile phone number 

To check the merger status of your SSNIT and NIA numbers, you have two options.

Using USSD shortcode

To check the merger status of your SSNIT and NIA numbers,

  1. Dial *711*9#
  2. Select option 2 (Check Merger Status).
  3. Enter your SSNIT or NIA number (Personal ID Number on the Ghana Card).
  4. Click send.

Your status will be retrieved and forwarded to your email.

Using the website

  1. Visit the SSNIT website ssnit.org.gh
  2. Click My Statement.
  3. On the right side, under “Have you linked your Ghana Card? Check status here”, enter your SSNIT number to check your merger status.
  4. Click “Check Status”.
  5. A pop-up message to check your email will appear on your screen.

  1. Members will experience quite a bit of convenience as they will have to keep only one card to transact business with SSNIT. The Ghana Card will now be your SSNIT card.
  2. It will also result in some savings as the cost of printing the SSNIT Biometric cards will be eliminated.
  3. It is a legal requirement. Regulation 7of the National Identity Register Regulations, 2012, L.I. 2111, requires the use of the Ghana Card for “transactions pertaining to individuals in respect of pension” and “transactions that have social security implications
  4. It is also a directive from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA)

SSNIT requires both your SSNIT and NIA numbers for the merger process. So if you gave out your SSNIT number to the NIA registration team, you will not have to do the merger because it will be done for you automatically.

No. You only need to confirm if the merger of your numbers was successful.

  3. Enter your SSNIT or NIA number (Personal ID Number on the Ghana Card)
  4. Click send
  5. Your status will be retrieved and sent to your email.

A Member who fails to complete the merger process by December 2021 will not be able to access SSNIT services.

Yes, you must provide your NIA number (Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card) if you have gone through the merger process. Merged SSNIT and NIA numbers will be used concurrently during the transition period.

Yes, you can use your NIA number (Personal ID Number on the Ghana Card) if it has been merged with your SSNIT number. Merged SSNIT and NIA numbers will be used concurrently during the transition period.

Yes, having an NIA number does not automatically make one a Member of the SSNIT Scheme. To become a member of the SSNIT Scheme you need to enroll with SSNIT using your NIA number. In addition to your information in the NIA database, SSNIT requires:

  1. The name of the organization you work in
  2. When you started working
  3. Your salary
  4. The names / NIA numbers of your beneficiaries

All new joiners must present their NIA Numbers (Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card) to be registered. However, during the transition period, new joiners can present these IDs: Birth Certificate, Driver’s License, Baptismal Certificate, Passport and the New Voter ID as evidence of date of birth. Note: NHIS Card will no longer be accepted as an identification document to prove date of birth of new members.

Yes, employers can quote their workers’ NIA numbers (Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card) if they have been merged with their SSNIT numbers. Merged SSNIT and NIA numbers will be used concurrently during the transition period (from June to December 2021).

No. However, you must provide your NIA number (Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card) when the time is due for you to renew your Pensioner’s Certificate.

Yes, you can authorize someone to merge your SSNIT and NIA numbers (Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card) on your behalf. The person will require your SSNIT number, NIA number, and your email address registered with SSNIT. Feedback will be sent to your phone number and email address. This is however not encouraged.

No. The system for merging your SSNIT and NIA numbers (Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card) does not make provision for update of personal records. You can however visit any SSNIT branch to update your SSNIT records or the NIA office to update your records with them before or after the merger.

Yes. Your date of birth with NIA will however not affect your date of birth with SSNIT and vice-versa. However, for computation of benefits, SSNIT will use the date of birth you provided to the Trust when you registered.

Yes. The merger will be done by comparing your biometrics in the SSNIT database with that of NIA. Once they match, the merger will be successful irrespective of the differences in the name or gender.

You need to be biometrically enrolled with SSNIT to go through the merger and must have updated your records, particularly your email address and telephone number.
