The 2nd Seminar of the Encounter with the Media under the theme "Partnering the Media on Social Security Education" for the Northern Sector was held at the Miklin Hotel, Kumasi on Wednesday, 29th April, 2015.
The encounter afforded Editors and Reporters from Bolga, Wa, Sunyani, Tamale and Kumasi the opportunity to learn more about SSNIT and to enable them educate and inform the public effectively.
In all fifty-five (55) Media personnel attended the Seminar. Also in attendance was the Media Consultant, Dr Messan Mawugbe of the Centre for Media Analysis.
The Resource Persons and their topics included the following:
- Corporate Affairs Manager, Ms Evangeline Amegashie (Overview of Social Security)
- Kumasi Area Manager, Mr Allandu Azu (SSNIT Operations)
- General Manager-General Counsel, Mr Peter Hayibor (Act 766 Amendments)
- General Manager-Special Projects, Rev Kwaku Osei Bimpong (What the Public should know on the OBS)
- Actuarial Manager, Mrs Evelyn Ampoful (Annual Review of Pensions) and
- PPM Manager, Ms Patience Owusu (SSNIT Investment Policy)
Personnel from the Media were advised to focus more on generating information and engaging the public rather than being events oriented. It was also noted that in most cases information on SSNIT has been episodic rather than self generated new item.
At the end of the programme, ten (10) Radio Stations granted interviews to the Corporate Affairs Manager, Ms Evangeline Amegashie and three (3) to the General Manager-Special Projects, Rev Kwaku Osei Bimpong
