SSNIT ENGAGES MEDIA

As part of the 2015 media campaign of the Trust, a day's seminar on Social Security was organised by the Trust for some editors of print, television and radio stations and talk show hosts, at Aburi. The Corporate Affairs Manager, Ms Evangeline Amegashie, commenced with an overview of the concept of Social Security and Social Security in Ghana.

She was followed by the Actuarial Manager, Ms Evelyn Ampoful, who took the media persons through pension Indexation and how they are determined.
The third speaker, the GM-Operations, Mr Theodore Frederic Ohene, briefed the participants on the functions and challenges of the Operations Division.
The GM-Benefits, Mr Leslie Arde-Acquah, spoke on how benefits were processed and the challenges that usually come with it. He explained the various methodologies used in calculating the different benefits, old age pension, invalidity and survivors’ benefits.
Mr Arde-Acquah further explained the rationale behind the low pensions linking it to the low levels of basic salaries.
Ms Patience Owusu, the Portfolio, Performance and Monitoring (PPM) Manager, gave a graphical presentation on SSNIT’s investments policy and the areas that the Trust has invested in. This elicited countless of questions. The GM-IDD, Mr Noel Addo, and the GM-Benefits, Mr Leslie Arde-Acquah, explained the justification for the investments and how these investments had proved profitable.

The GM-Special Projects, Rev Kwaku Osei Bimpong, focused on the Operational Business Suite (OBS) and the way it would transform the operations of the Trust when complete.
The last person to speak was the GM-General Counsel Division (GCD), Mr Peter Hayibor. His presentation was on Act 766 and the subsequent Amendment Bill Act 883 which touches on emigration and the correction of the computation formula.
The seminar was attended by 24 media houses.
