A 24-member delegation from the Ugandan National Social Security Fund has paid a weeklong visit to SSNIT. The Ugandan delegation which comprised members of the board and management of the National Social Security Fund of Uganda, members of Parliament of Uganda and government officials were in the country to study the history and processes that informed reforms undertaken by SSNIT in areas such as compliance, regulatory regimes and investments.

The Director-General of SSNIT, Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang who welcomed the delegation, explained that such visits were in the spirit of cooperation among African countries.

He said the problems that confront many of the Social Security Schemes in Africa are similar and policy-makers from such countries should work together to find common solutions to them.

Dr Ofori-Tenkorang said even when the problems are different in nature, the solutions could be modified to suit the specific needs of those countries without “reinventing the wheel.”

A spokesperson of the delegation, the Deputy Managing Director of the Ugandan Social Security Fund, Mr Patrick Ayota  hoped the outcome of discussions with the Management of SSNIT and also the National Pensions Regulatory Authority, would provide useful inputs to enrich a  parliamentary bill, meant to reform the pensions sector of Uganda.
