The second SSNIT INFO SHOPorganized in collaboration with the University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) has been held at the University of Ghana, Legon in Accra. The maiden INFO SHOP, was held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on March 17, 2018

The SSNIT INFO SHOPis an information-sharing forum meant to educate university students about the importance of social security. It is also intended to help university students to appreciate how SSNIT could help them to prepare, secure and take control of their lives before and beyond age 60 or in the event of permanent invalidity.

The event under the theme “SSNIT, Your security for tomorrow”, was attended by over 600 (six hundred) students. It was held at the Bank of Ghana Auditorium at the Economics Department of the University of Ghana.

In his keynote address, the Director-General of SSNIT, Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, urged the students to enroll with the SSNIT scheme to protect their future income security.

Dr. D.K Twerefour, Senior Lecturer at the Economics Department of the University of Ghana praised SSNIT for holding the function to educate the students on social security.

The president of USAG, Mr. Albert Oppong Kesse was grateful for the presence of some of the SSNIT Executive Management Team and said USAG decided to partner SSNIT to sensitize tertiary students on pension issues.

Ms. Patience Owusu, Portfolio Performance and Monitoring Manager, who spoke on SSNIT Investmentsand itsSocio-Economic Impact, said the Trust seeks to maximize return on its investments to support benefits payment among other things. Mr. Leslie Botchway, Benefits Co-ordinator who addressed SSNIT Benefits, reminded the students that the right to good retirement is a human right while Mr. Charles Garshong, Public Education Officer, Corporate Affairs Department, who dilated on the National Pensions Act 2008, (Act 766) explained that SSNIT provides social insurance for old age, invalidity, survivors of deceased members and emigration benefits.

Mr. Michael Addo, Deputy-Director General, Finance and Administration, advised the students to take the planning for their future income security seriously.

Selected staff from SSNIT Branches under the Accra North and South Areas of the Trust mounted biometric registration stands, registered some of the students onto the scheme, and provided answers to their queries and complaints among other things.
