SOCIAL SECURITY AND NATIONAL INSURANCE TRUST
DIRECTOR GENERAL`S COMMENTS ON SOME DIVISIONAL PERFORMANCE

The Director General, Mr. Ernest Thompson, at the 12th Performance Review Conference held at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel commented on some key areas of the Trust's performance in 2014. 

OPERATIONS
On Operations, Mr Thompson explained that using international benchmarks to compare the dependency ratio with SSNIT could be misleading. He stated that though the principles of Social Security may be the same everywhere the underpinnings could differ from country to country. Hence contributions could be affected by the dynamics in the economy which consequently may affect the dependency ratio.
MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS) 
Mr Thompson commented on the Trust???s data integrity and requested that it must be resolved quickly as this had caused the delay in the implementation of Phase II of the OBS in the 10 pilot Branches. He reiterated the need for effective supervision by the Operations Coordinator and Area Managers and urged them to communicate any difficulties encountered.
The DG added that the MIS Division and the Corporate Affairs Department needed to be more vibrant and proactive in their activities. He entreated the Change Management Committee to endeavour to carry staff through the OBS effectively.
ADMINISTRATION & HUMAN RESOURCES 
Mr Thompson advised that the Division to explore the possibility of using the SSNIT Taskforce to retrieve ex-staff indebtedness. He stated that the security issues in the organisation should be reviewed and in so doing both the human resource and the technology side must be considered.
The DG also expressed the urgent need to standardise the Performance Management System (PMS) and advised that staff who may be interested in extra-curricular activities
GENERAL COUNSEL 
Mr. Thompson advised that the structure of the Division be reviewed to enable them resolve a lot more outstanding problems. He mentioned that if undertaking Brokerage License is feasible to operate, then the Insurance Department had to develop a paper for his approval.
The DG advised the Division to identify training and attachment needs to bolster their experience.
FINANCE 
The Director-General revealed that more Departments had been created in the Division for a lateral structure to speed up payment processes.
OFFICE OF THE CHIEF ACTUARY (OCA) 
On the OCA , the Department was advised to draw programmes for educating staff on the computation of the various SSNIT Benefits.
