The fourth edition of the SSNIT INFO SHOP, meant to engage University students across the country on social security investments among others things, was held at the Methodist University College of Ghana (MUCG), Dansoman Campus, in Accra, Tuesday May 9 2018.

It was under the theme “SSNIT Your Security For Tomorrow” and attracted about 700 students who participated in the programme. Many of the students went through biometric registration to become members of the scheme.

In his keynote address, the Director General Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang asked the students to take retirement planning seriously whilst in school, as loss of income in old age is inevitable.

The General Manager Benefits, Mrs Rosemary Sackey took students through the SSNIT Benefits in terms of the qualifying conditions and the quantum of SSNIT pension payments to beneficiaries.

The Porfolio Performance Manager, Ms Patience Owusu gave the students insights into the investments of the SSNIT and said the Trust was investing prudently to grow contributors’ funds for a better pension.

Mr Charles Garshong of the Corporate Affairs Department took the students through the obligations of employers and employees under the National Pensions Act 2008 (Act 766).

The SRC President of the Methodist University College, Mr Evans Amihere said they were proud to be the first private university to benefit from the SSNIT initiative and was confident that the knowledge gained by the students would be useful to them in their working lives.

Staff from Adabraka, Accra Central, Airport, Accra Industrial Area (AIA) and other officials of the Accra North and South Area assisted with the biometric registration.

The programme was chaired by the Vice Principal of the University, Very RevProf.  J. M. Y. Adusa-Eyison
