2014 PERFORMANCE REVIEW CONFERENCE

The 12th Annual Performance Review Conference was held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel from 20th - 22nd April, 2014 themed, "Implementing the 2014-2019 Medium Term Strategic Plan Effectively in a Changing Environment."

The Chairman, Mr George Odum, prior to the opening of the Conference advised participants that since SSNIT has accepted to grow as an institution it would be assessed by International Social Security standards.

 

He added that the Trust has undergone series of evolutions, including technology, legislations, amendments of the Laws and regulatory requirements with the last amendment being the National Pensions Amendment Act, Act 883 which was passed in December, 2014.

According to Mr Odum, the technological changes which include the WAN, LAN, Data Centre, Contact Centre, OBS, Records Digitisation were a few of the initiatives that have been guided by the Strategic Plan.

All these, he said, were accompanied with increased responsibilities and expectations bearing in mind the media landscape and its implications.
The Director General, Mr. Ernest Thompson emphasised the need for all Area Managers and the Operations Coordinator to step up their supervisory roles of the Branch Managers especially in the area of the smart card distribution.
He reminded all participants to work assiduously, effectively and consciously engage staff in managing the change in the Trust. He also asked them to work collectively as a team to meet the expectation of our stakeholders. This, he said called for effective implementation of the Strategic Plan.
Mr. Thompson emphasised that the Trust has provided the needed structures to implement, monitor, and review annual action plans and operate budgets aligned to the Strategic Plan as well as performance tracking system through predetermined indicators and continuous review.
He indicated that since staff needed to have the appropriate mindset to achieve results and impact positively on the organisation, functional Managers had to communicate clearly all the programmes outlined in the 2014 – 2015 Strategic Plan to their staff. This will indeed help staff understand the importance of their roles and functions toward the set corporate goals and reward exceptional high performance.
In his closing remarks, Mr Thompson revealed that the Board of Trustees of SSNIT had requested from him a performance review of what happens in the Trust on a quarterly basis. He implored members to diligently ensure that the Trust achieves its Mission and Vision objectives.
The Chairmans stated that taking stock of the previous year???s performance was always a useful exercise He commended the participants for being cooperative and attentive at the Conference. Mr Odum exhorted the Conference that the Executive were open to ideas from staff and that the Trust needed to operate as a family.
